“Ecofriendly route to synthesise nanoparticles”
Nanobiomedicine Lab and Aquatic Nanotoxicology Unit is involved in the synthesis the all various metallic and non-metallic nanoparticles using a greener aprroach and investigate its potential in the field of dentistry.
Selenium, a trace element is essential for the normal physiological functions of our body. It act as an essential cofactor for various enzymes with antioxidant activities and mediates several other functions. Our lab recently harnessed the reducing property of Brassica oleracea (Broccoli) and synthesized selenium nanoparticles. These particles were effective against preventing the growth of pathogeneic microbes and exhibited antioxidant activity. Surprisingly the particles were very small in the range of 10 to 25 nm and the average particle size was 15.2 ± 1.9 nm.
The SeNPs synthesized with Brassica oleracea extract can be incorporated in toothpaste, gums, and mouthwashes that are cost-effective and biocompatible for the prevention of dental caries. The results were published recently and you can read more by following the link https://www.hindawi.com/journals/jnm/2021/8115585/
